Gettin' Outside in South Carolina

9/21/2016

On our last vacation to South Carolina, we made a plan to spend everyday being active and outside.  We were blessed with wonderful, mostly sunny days and were able to appreciate all that the east coast has to offer.  Isabella and I made it out to the beach early our first day and had the best time together doing a yoga session and then some poses that were a little out of our comfort zone (or at least my comfort zone) for fun.

Because most of our year is spent landlocked, we take advantage whenever we are near water and this time was no different.  Every day was spent at one point or another walking or running with the dogs on the beach.

These kids are like ducks to water.  River, we feel was aptly named because we can't keep him out of the waves.  However, they all challenge each other when it comes to being the best on a boogie board, or skimboarding.  Gemma is still a bit hesitant and likes to pretend more on land that she is surfing.

Mornings are so peaceful along the coast.  You get to listen to the gentle pulse of the tide, beach-comb for treasures from the sea and enjoy the cool sea mist in the air.

We ALWAYS eat local when on vacation.  This means no fast food, no corporate chains etc.  We end up meeting the most interesting people and trying many dishes that we normally wouldn't encounter.  This trip we had the pleasure of having fresh caught trigger fish.  It is a delicious white fish and if you have the opportunity to try it on a menu or a fresh catch of the day, get it!  You will not be disappointed.  We made some wonderful dishes with it, of which included grilled fish tacos that were amazing.  Boiled shrimp is always on the menu and one of our favorite lunches is to grab a tomato pie.  Yes, I said tomato pie and it's sinfully good.

It wouldn't be a trip to grandpa's house if most evenings weren't spent at the inlet behind his home fishing.  Most of the time little sunfish are caught, but on the rare occasion they will pull in a large bass or a snapping turtle.  There are rumors of a gator in the area so we are always cautious as you need to be any time you are near a water source in the south.  South Carolina is one of our favorite vacation destinations for sure, partly because we get to visit Chad's dad, but also because we have such a great time at Myrtle Beach, Murrell's Inlet, Pawleys Island, and of course, Charleston.  Who knows, maybe one day we will set some roots there.  Y'all have a great rest of your week.

Love,

Molly
